Our 5-day ETA® approved Fiber Optics Technician (FOT) course is for individuals that possess a current ETA® FOI certification and have at least 2 years of hands-on working experience as a fiber optic installer. This course is perfect for technicians looking to advance their skill level to Journeyman in the fiber optics industry. FOT training will be performed using best practices for fiber optics. Here are the competency requirements of a Fiber Optics Technician (FOT).
During training, you will learn advanced techniques to become proficient with fiber optic cable installation, fusion splicing, testing, troubleshooting and repair. By becoming an ETA® certified FOT, will be able to perform loss budget calculations and diagnose test results from a fiber span. You will learn to identify various fiber optic cables, splice closures and connector types when performing repair and restorations. An FOT will have a complete understanding of inside and outside plant optical fiber, connector types, and splice performance characteristics as described in TIA-568. An FOT will use these performance characteristics to create a worst case power budget for a fiber optic cable plant. An FOT will be able to proficiently troubleshoot, perform optical loss testing as described in TIA/EIA-526-14A and perform connector endface evaluation as described in TIA-455. Using an OTDR, an FOT can effectively locate faults in a fiber optic cable, mated connector pair, or splice as well as evaluate optical fiber performance, mated connector pair performance, or splice performance for compliance with TIA-568 and ISO/IEC 11801 standards.
Why become an ETA® Certified FOT through JM Fiber Optics?
Our instructors have several years of “real-world” experience working with fiber optics. For example, we not only teach you what is required by ETA® to become a certified FOT, but teach you “tricks of the trade” only learned through years of experience. Since JM Fiber Optics is vendor neutral, so you’ll receive “no sales pitch” from manufacturer sales people who call themselves instructors.
JM Fiber Optics does not offer training without hands-on to support the classroom curriculum. Why is this important? Because only hands-on training will give you the skills needed to become a Journeymen level fiber optic technician. In fact, you’ll be left feeling more lost than before you started. Our fully equipped training lab will bring real-word applications and environments you’ll find in the field.
- How many fiber technician training courses use a live, “hands-on” approach to using a fiber jetting machine? We Do!
- How many fiber technician training courses use a live 10G network to teach you how to test and troubleshoot a fiber network? We Do!
These are just 2 examples of how our hands-on training will bring real-word applications and environments you’ll find in the field.
Don’t be fooled by cheap, on-line imitations and “traveling road show” training from a hotel conference room. Do like hundreds have done before you and sign up for training from JM Fiber Optics today!
